About Storage Size Lab
Storage Size Lab helps people in the US estimate storage size, fit and cost. Capacity and item-volume calculations use one published model and open household-item dataset. Cost ranges and other editorial figures use separately documented sources and assumptions, with limitations stated on the relevant page.
Why this site exists
Storage is sold by floor area and used by volume, and almost every published size guide blurs the two. The result is predictable: people rent a unit one size too small, discover it on moving day, and pay twice.
We built a capacity model that states its assumptions — ceiling height, packing efficiency, aisle allowance — and then built the calculators, size guides and cost references on top of that single model. The point is not to have more pages than anyone else. It is that the number on a size page, the number in a comparison table and the number the calculator returns are the same number, and you can see how it was reached.

How this is funded
It is not. There is no advertising on this site, no affiliate links, no sponsored placements and no third-party analytics transmitting visitor data. The local product event contract has no collection endpoint. Nothing here earns a commission, and no outbound link is paid for.
That is worth stating plainly because it changes how you should read the recommendations: the capacity model is arithmetic, and there is no commercial reason for it to push you toward a larger unit than your inventory needs. Who owns and publishes this site
Storage Size Lab is an independent publication. It is owned and operated by the team that maintains it, and it is not owned by, affiliated with, or funded by any self-storage operator, broker, marketplace or facility group. No such company has any input into the capacity model, the size recommendations or the cost ranges.
Everything here is published by the Storage Size Lab Editorial Team as a team rather than under individual bylines, and passes our internal our internal review process. That is a deliberate choice rather than an omission: the figures on this site come from one shared model and one published dataset, not from a personal opinion, so the accountable party is the publisher as a whole. We do not claim external expert review without naming and documenting that reviewer, and we do not attach credentials to work that has not been through one. Our our editorial standards sets out how content is made and what we will not do.
